Abstract
400,635. Control of A.C. motors. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.- GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. Feb. 19, 1932, No. 4994. Convention date, Feb. 20, 1931. [Class 38 (iii).] A frequency changer employing controlled arc rectifiers in which the grid voltage comprises components of both frequencies, is used to control the speed of alternating current machines. The frequency of the output of the converter may be increased from zero upwards by control of the frequency of one of the grid voltages and hence the converter may be used for running up asynchronous motor. The speed of non-synchronous machines may be controlled within predetermined limits, e.g. 5 per cent above or below synchronism, as shown in the Figure, by connecting a converter between the rotor and the supply line 20, the rotor winding forming the output of the device. The grids are energized from the line 20 and from a frequency changer 40 which may be used in conjunction with a copying machine 42, both machines being on the shaft of the main machine. Control of the magnitude and phase of the grid voltages is effected manually by transformers 43 or 41 so as to control the magnitude and direction of the slip energy flow and so control the speed of the machine.
