Abstract
429,047. Grabs. PRIESTMAN, S. H., Holderness Foundry, Hull. Jan. 2, 1934, No. 153. [Class 78 (iv)] The grab bucket jaws are provided with extensions 12 connected by a system of lazytongs links, preferably forming three linked parallelograms, of which the centre one is smaller than the other two, whereby the jaws can be widely separated without excessive overall height. The closing rope 26 passes from a fixed point round pulleys 28 on the bucket extensions, thence round pulley 42 to the hoisting-gear. The opening-rope passes from a fixed point on the fixed crosshead 32 round pulleys on the sliding crosshead 16 to the operating-gear. Haulage on this rope causes the crossheads 32, 16 to approach one another with consequential operation of the linkage to open the grab. The bucket sections 10 may be integral with or fixed securely to the members 12 or may be pivoted thereto and also connected to the links 22 by constraining links disconnectable at will, in the manner described in Specification 338,225, [Class 78 (iv)]. The linkage, opening, and closing ropes may all be duplicated at opposite sides of the grab.
