[Class 143] Computing - apparatus.- Relates to a weighing- machine of the kind wherein value computations corresponding to various basic prices are arranged on an adjustable roller - mounted band visible through windows at opposite sides of the machine and swept by the weight - indicating pointer, and consists in guiding the band in the form of an N, arranging the opposite reading windows at the same height, and in providing the band with similar charts on both sides or with a chart on one side and advertisements on the other so as to display at the opposite windows the similar charts or one chart and the advertisement. As shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the band 2 bearing the computed values 5 for the various basic prices 7 passes in N-formation between two rollers 9, 10 connected by gearing and rotated by means of a handle 14 so as to bring the required set of values and basic price into view behind the windows 4. The casing is furnished at each side with a scale of weights 6. A pointer 8 indicates simultaneously the weight and value. As shown in Fig. 7, in connection with a machine wherein a lower weighing range of 0 to 6 lbs. may be changed to a higher range of 6 to 12 lbs. the band bears two adjacent sets of value computations for each basic price 7 a weight scale 6 or 6<1> being provided for each range. The value figures for the lower units of currency are disposed below the figures for the higher units in zig-zag manner, as shown, and the pointer 8 shaped for convenient reading. To facilitate setting of the band to the desired basic price, the band is provided along its length with a red line 13 arranged to intersect the weights scale 6 at a point indicative of the basic price. The red line is applied to a transparent tape fixed to the band. A spring arranged in the gear drive of the band keeps the band under tension. One side of the band may carry advertisements instead of a computing chart. Shade lamps outside the casing illuminate the charts. Overwinding of the band is prevented by a sliding nut traversed between adjustable stops by means of a screw-threaded portion of the handle 14.
