Class 141 A measuring device to be applied to the person in measuring for a brassiere comprises a size scale for taking the circumferential measurement directly below the bust and a cup shape scale for indicating the difference between the circumferential measurements directly below and over the middle of the bust. The cup shape scale, Fig. 1, is divided into a number of longitudinal strips corresponding to the number of cup shapes provided for each brassiere size, each strip having a series of spaced panels marked consecutively with the index numbers of the size scale, e.g. 2-16, the panels being staggered as shown. In one form, the two scales are provided on opposite sides or opposite edges of a single band, the zero points of the scales being relatively displaced by a distance equal to the smallest difference between the circumferential measurements below and over the middle of the bust. The band is first used to obtain the size measurement below the bust and the appropriate reading on the size scale 2-16 is noted. The band is then applied over the middle of the bust; there the zero point will intersect three differently numbered panels, the one bearing the noted size indicating by its row the required cup shape. In Fig. 2, the scales are on separate two-part bands 8, 8<SP>1</SP>; 9, 9<SP>1</SP> which can be drawn out of a casing 5 against the action of a spring. The bands are connected at their ends by transverse members 11, 12 with complementary fastening means 13, 14, so that the device can be applied to the bust and fastened at the back by the fasteners 13, 14. Windows 16, 17 in the casing allow the two scales to be read simultaneously. Given a size 4 on the lower scale, the row in which the number 4 appears on the upper scale indicates the required cup shape.
