Abstract

372,185. Weighing-apparatus. DAYTON SCALE CO., 468, Huffman Avenue, Dayton, Ohio, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Templeton, S. M.; 1448, Bryn Mawr Drive, Dayton, Ohio, U.S.A.) Aug. 4, 1931, No. 22124. Convention date, Aug. 8, 1930. [Class 143.] Computing-apparatus.-A weighing scale provided with a double reading chart having a plurality of parallel columns so as to permit both the customer and the merchant to read the chart simultaneously comprises a movable shutter mechanism adapted to be selectively set to take a reading in any desired column and simultaneously restrict the customer's view of the chart to the single column selected by the merchant. A bar 23, secured longitudinally above the rotatable computing drum 7, supports a carriage 22 provided with lateral extensions carrying lenses 26, 26a to enable the salesman and customer respectively to read the weights and monetary values on the drum. The carriage is moved by a handle 32 and the setting and reading are facilitated by pointers 27, 27a and electric lamps 30, 30a. In order to obscure, on the customer's side of the scale, all the drum indications except the one to be read, a spring drum 40 is arranged adjacent each end of the viewing slot 20, and flexible tapes 35, 35<1> are lead from the drums so as to extend in front of the slot, the ends of the tapes being secured to the lens frame by screws 36 so as to leave a gap 37 sufficiently wide to expose one column of the computing drum. The weight and value numerals on the computing drum are in duplicate, the sets of numerals being inverted with respect to one another in order to afford normal reading on opposite sides of the machine. The weight readings for the salesman and customer are situated in the centre zone, and at one end respectively, of the drum. The weight-indicating range on the salesman's side is extended by continuing his weight graduations completely round the drum. The extended rotation of the drum to bring these additional weight graduations into view displays inverted value numerals at the view slots and thus prevents them from being readily read.
