[Class 143.] Computing - apparatus.-A computing weighing-scale comprises a chart bearing a plurality of identical sets of characters each of which sets occupies a part of the length of the chart, and means are provided at each of a plurality of spaced positions whereby a different set of the characters is caused apparently to occupy at each position substantially the whole length of the chart. A cylindrical chart 4, rotated in usual manner from the lever mechanism bears two sets of identical graduations, one inverted with respect to the other, for viewing by the merchant and customer respectively through slots at opposite sides of the machine. Each set of graduations is comprised of four annular zones spaced apart, the zones of one set filling the spaces between the zones of the other set. In front of the zones of each set of graduations are arranged four spherical lenses 28 .. 31 backed by tapering cells 32 .. 35, the magnification of the lenses and the taper of the cells being chosen so that, to the observer, the sides of the cells appear to be parallel and the zones of graduations at the narrow ends of the cells appear as a continuous line of readings. Between the lenses and the cylindrical chart are arranged price strips 14 with groups of graduations spaced to correspond to the spacing of the zones of value graduations. The price graduations also appear as a continuous line when viewed through the lenses.
