428,732. Promoting water circulation in steam boilers. LEPAGE, J. F., 12, Rue Frantz - Despagner, St. Augustin, Bordeaux, France. May 7, 1934, No. 13791. [Class 123 (ii)] Return-tube boilers have one or more vertical downcomer pipes 1 adjacent to and out of contact with the smoke tubes and extending from just below the normal water level to a point between and adjacent the fireboxes and spaced from the boiler shell by a distance not less than that between the fireboxes and the shell, the pipes consisting of a number of telescopically engaging portions. The pipes may be attached by collars 4 to tie rods 3. A flared part 5 at their upper end keeps the rising steam away from the mouth of the pipe.
