Abstract
428,259. Respiratory masks. SOC. ITALIANA PIRELLI, 21, Via Fabio Filzi, Milan, Italy. July 28, 1934, No. 22102. Convention date, Aug. 23, 1933. [Class 81 (ii)] A gas-mask or airman's mask 1, covering the whole of the face and secured by straps 8, is characterized by a pneumatic sealing element 5 projecting inwardly from the wall of the mask and adapted to enclose and seal off the nose and mouth. The mask may be of leather, rubber, rubberized fabric, transparent sheet material or metal and may be provided with glass or celluloid windows 5 in which case the edge of the mask is formed with an additional seal 2 of smooth soft rubber strip. Alternatively the mask may be open opposite the eyes, the edge in this case being cushioned by a lining of sponge rubber or by being rolled inwardly. The pneumatic sealing element may be made inflatable and deflatable by the provision of an inflating bulb with a manually operable leak valve, and may be secured to or moulded into the wall of the mask.
