Abstract

427,276. Compressor valves. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Sept. 12, 1934, No. 26213. Convention date, Sept. 12, 1933. [Class 135] A valve structure for a compressor comprises a plate or the like 13 with ports 23 therein, an elongated flexible valve strip 26 seated over them, and a rigid bridging member 27 engaging the ends of the valve, the valve 26 and member 27 being bodily movable away from the plate 13. Two such structures are mounted on the plate 13, and they are pressed towards the plate by leaf-springs 33, 34 secured by clamping-bars 36, 37 and engaging struck-up parts 32 on the members 27. Pins 31 on the plate engage slots 29, 30 in the ends of the members 26 27 to guide them in their movement. The strip 26 is made of spring steel so that with normal operation it flexes to allow gas to be discharged through the ports. Abnormal pressure in the cylinder beneath the plate 13, forces the strip 26 against the member 27 and causes both members to lift bodily to release the pressure.
