Abstract
427,119. Tripods. HENLEY'S TELEGRAPH WORKS CO., Ltd., W. T., and MAYLETT, A. M. E., 11, Holborn Viaduct, London. Oct. 21, 1933, No. 29185. [Class 52 (v)] In a collapsable tripod of the type comprising a pair of front legs 1, 2 pivotally connected and passing through a sleeve 6 to which a rear leg 3 is also pivoted, the pivot 9 between the front legs is such as to permit relative longitudinal movement of these legs to lock them together in the closed position, and the parts are so connected that when closed the rear leg is constrained to lie alongside the front legs. The sleeve 6 is of sector shape and carries the pivot pin 9 which engages a hole in the leg 1 and a slot 5 in the leg 2 so that by raising the leg 2 in the closed position a projection 12 at its upper end may be caused to engage a slot 13 in the upper end of the leg 1 thus locking the legs together. Internal projections or stops 10, 11 in the sleeve prevent movement of each leg beyond its central position so that when locked together the legs cannot move relatively to the sleeve. To maintain the effective lengths of the front legs equal, the pivot pin 9 is kept in the upper end of the slot 5 in the open position by a pin 14 on the leg 2 engaging an L-shaped slot 15 in the sleeve. Alternatively, the leg 1 may be furnished with the stud 12 and the leg 2 with the slot 13, disengagement being effected by sliding the leg 2 downwardly. The rear wall 8 of the sleeve is slotted and provided with a pair of rearwardly directed lugs 17 carrying the pivot pin 18 for the rear leg 3, and the head 19 of the pivot pin 9 is also slotted so that in the closed position the rear leg bears closely against the front legs and cannot rock. In the open position shown the top of the rear leg passes between the upper ends of the front legs. The rear leg may be cut away to clear the sleeve.
