Abstract

384,685. Hinges for rods. EGLINTON, W. D., 100, Lower Addiscombe Road, Croydon. June 22, 1931, No. 18069. [Class 65 (ii).] A collapsable leg or post comprises two parts permanently connected together by means permitting both longitudinal and lateral relative movements of the parts whereby without relative rotation the parts can be moved either to lie side by side or to be in alignment, means being provided for locking the parts in the aligned position. One part 1 of the leg has at its end a fitting 2 with a socket 4 having slots 5. Links 8 are pivoted to the fitting 2 and to a sleeve 9 slidably mounted on the other part 10 of the leg. The part 10 is also provided at its extremity with a spigot 6 having lugs 7 adapted to enter the slots 5. To move the parts 1, 10 from the position shown into the position in which they form a single rigid leg, the part 10 is withdrawn through the sleeve 9 until the lugs 7 enter recesses in the sleeve, and is then swung about the link pivots until it is in alignment with the part 1 ; it is then pushed through the sleeve 9, which now abuts against the socket 4, so that the lugs 7 enter the slots 5 in the socket.
