Abstract

426,851. Valves. CARLSSON, R., 19, Flemminggatan, Stockhohn. June 18, 1934, No. 18021. [Class 135] An outlet valve for dish-troughs, bath tubs, &c., which acts also as an overflow valve is spring loaded or counterweighted so as to open when the hydrostatic pressure upon it exceeds a certain value, the valve seating being formed as a removable ring encircling the valve. A valve 10 has a stem 12 connected by levers 5, resting on knife-edges 4, to a ring 3 which slides in a cylindrical sluice 1 at the base of the vessel. The ring 3 which forms the valve seating is made heavier than the valve so as to hold the latter closed against the hydrostatic pressure in the vessel up to a predetermined amount. Since the ring 3 rises as the valve opens, slots 18<1> are formed in it for the escape of the liquid in the vessel. The right hand half of the Figure shows a modified ring adapted to ensure quicker closing of the valve when the liquid has fallen to its normal level. When the valve opens it rests against a shoulder 22 on the ring 3 and liquid flows through the slots 181 into chambers 19, 20 and puts additional pressure on the base 21 of the chamber 20. This liquid ultimately escapes through openings 23. The knife edges 4 may be carried by a cup 6 which acts as a valve stem guide and is removable with the valve and seating for cleaning, or the edges 4 may be formed on the base of the sluice. In another modification the ring 3 is normally fixed and the valve 10 loaded by a spring surrounding its stem or acting on the rod 17 of the gear for manually opening the valve. This gear includes a lever 14 engaging a slot in the valve stem. A grating 11 protects the valve from the pressure of any objects placed in the vessel.
