Abstract

245,551. Edwards, G. T., and Blakeborough, R. A. Nov. 6, 1924. Valves actuated by vessels receiving and discharging liquid.-A device for automatically venting air from water mains consists of a container 1 slidable relatively to a valve 13 which normally closes an opening 9 in the upper part of the container 1 but which, on accnmulation of air in the container and consequent reduction of the weight of water therein so that the container rises from the valve 13, opens to permit escape of air. Balance weights 16 may be provided or the air pressure may be utilized to raise the container by making the area of the outlet port 9 less than that of the inlet pipe 12. The container may rock about inlet trunnions or as shown may slide on the inlet pipe 12.
