Abstract

426,740. Transformers. GAVED, J. L., (trading as BETTER LINES CO.), New Bungalow Office, Hints Road, Mile Oak, Near Tamworth, Staffordshire. Nov. 3, 1933, No. 30543. [Class 38 (ii)] A pole-type transformer in an overhead transmission system is mounted so that it can be readily raised or lowered to enable such things as inspection of fuse gear to be made at ground level. In addition, lowering of the transformer isolates it. The transformer is mounted on a carriage 5, Fig. 1 provided with rollers to slide on the channel section 1, forming the pole. The carriage is hauled into position by a wire rope passing over pulleys 14, 17, clips 18 retaining the carriage in the upper portion. The high tension leads are connected to contacts 34 mounted on insulators 30, the transformer being provided with coacting contacts mounted on insulators which house fuses. Similar connections 36 are arranged for the low tension leads. The carriage is disengaged for lowering by first raising slightly, this causes the clips 18 to be pressed in sufficiently for the latches 22 to engage them, the carriage can then be lowered. Lowering causes disconnection of the transformer. One of each pair of coacting contacts is made resilient to enable good contact to be obtained. An alternative form of contact is shown in Fig. 6. The lower contact comprises a pivoted link 41 carrying the contact 40, this link being urged upwardly by a spring 43 so that when the contacts 40, 44 come together or separate a certain amount of rubbing will take place to clean the contact surfaces. Arcing horns may be provided.
