Abstract
426,446. Metal barrels. MURRAY CORPORATION OF AMERICA, Russell Street, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Avery, C. W.) April 16, 1934, No. 11413. Convention date, May 24, 1933. [Class 21] An all-metal barrel e.g. of rustless metal or of steel with a rustproof finish consists of an inner shell made of two pot-shaped halves 12, Fig. 2, with flanges 13 which are joined by welding and an outer shell consisting of two halves 14 with flanges 15 abutting the flanges 13, these flanges being united by the welding. Alternative joints are shown in Figs. 6, 7 and 8. The space between the shells may be filled with insulating material such as felt, paper, hair, asbestos, cork, sawdust, &c. or a liquid or plastic insulating material, which when hardened provides extra reinforcement. Handholds 17 are provided at the ends and webs 18 and flanges 19 provide a structure resembling a railway-carriage wheel to facilitate rolling the barrel on tracks or conveyers. The portions 19 also facilitate rolling on flat surfaces. A bung ring 21 is welded, brazed &c. into place and a bunghole 22 is formed by mated recesses in the inner shells, a bung plate 23, Fig. 3, with sloping sides reinforcing the bung hole.
