Abstract

424,077. Lateral - splash guards. SIMPSON, N., and SIMPSON, F. G., The Cedars, Moorlands Road, Dewsbury, Yorkshire. Oct. 17, 1933, No. 28670. [Class 136 (i)] A lateral-splash guard, disposed at the side of the wheel, is resiliently mounted to permit a vertical sliding movement, and the lower part of the guard is arranged to move upwardly and outwardly, when an obstacle is encountered or when the tyre is deflated. The invention is shown applied to a guard mounted for vertical and swinging movements as described in Specification 388,678, the lower part 2 of the guard being hinged at 12 to the main part 1. The part 2 has normally a slight initial outward inclination, stops 13 locating it in this position. A spring anchored in a recess retains the part 2 against the stops, and comprises two axially spaced coils 16 having downwardly directed parts 14 joined by an integral cross piece 15. A rubber or other flexible strip 4 depends from the lower part of the member 2.
