Abstract
423,602. Locks. ROBERTS, R., 110, Balmoral Road, Mt. Eden, Auckland, New Zealand. Aug. 5, 1933, No. 22091. [Class 44] A lock, having a bolt 1 retracted by means of a band 34 which is rotated after insertion of a key, or by manual operation of a knob 11 inside the door 51, is provided with locking bars 36, 23, each movable axially to the dotted position, Fig. 9, to prevent withdrawal of the bolt 1. The outer lock 32 contains a barrel 34, provided with a collar 35, which has holes co-operating with spring-pressed tumblers 39. A spring 48 presses against a plate 37 to restore the bar 36 to its outer position, upon insertion of a key in the lock to release the tumblers from the barrel 34. The knob 11 also contains a slidable barrel 21. An oval flange 31 can be pressed inwards to enable the bar 23 to pass behind the plate 3, and tumblers enter holes in the barrel 21. The barrel 21 can only be released by means of a key which presses back the tumblers. The bolt 1 is normally retracted by rotation of either barrel 34 or 21 which causes either lugs 20 or 13 to press against the plate 3. The locking bars may be adjustable in length. A catch 8<A> may be pressed upwards to prevent retraction of the bolt.
