Abstract

Phenolic impurities are removed from ammonia liquor by heating it to a sufficient extent to drive off most of the phenolic bodies, the vapours evolved being treated for the removal of phenols, and then treating the residual liquor with liquid or solid absorbents to extract the remaining phenolic bodies. Preferably free ammonia is first removed by concentration or otherwise and the liquor is then further concentrated to remove the phenols. Free ammonia may be removed by treatment with steam obtained by further concentration of the liquor as described in Specification 392,560, [Group XII]. The treatment of the residual liquor with liquid adsorbents may be followed by treatment with solid absorbents as described in Specification 372,399. Specification 392,553, [Group XII], also is referred to.ALSO:Phenolic impurities are removed from ammonia liquor by heating it to a sufficient extent to drive off most of the phenolic bodies, the vapours evolved being treated for the removal of phenols, and then treating the residual liquor with liquid or solid absorbents to extract the remaining phenolic bodies.
