Abstract

423,137. Motor generators. FLETCHER, G. H., 4, Tapton House Road, Sheffield, and ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. March 19, 1934, No. 8627. [Class 35] In a motor generator having a common housing and a common armature shaft 15, the housing is formed in two parts 16, 17 separated by an insulating joint 29, the sleeve 7 carrying one of the armatures and the associated part 16 of the housing being insulated from the shaft 15. As shown applied to a machine designed to supply a low voltage current on vehicles, the housing part 16 encloses a higher voltage motor and the part 17 a low voltage generator. The inner bearing race 23 at the motor end is carried by the sleeve 7 which is insulated from the shaft, so that no insulation is necessary between the housing 16 and the shaft. In a modification, the shaft is journalled in the end of the housing 16 which is insulated from the outer member of the bearing. The machine as a whole is insulated from its support preferably by means of rubber to obtain a resilient mounting or one part only of the housing need be insulated either by an insulating suspension or by being supported from the other part of the housing.
