Abstract

422,611. Measures of length. THOMPSON, E., Coombe Lodge, Whitchurch, Oxfordshire, and PITCHFORD & CO., Ltd., F., Well House, Well Street, Jewin Street, London. April 21, 1934, No. 12015. [Class 106 (ii)] Relates to apparatus of the type in which a handle carries a wheel of known circumference which is rolled along the line to be measured, the revolutions being counted, and consists in providing deformations on the wheel to give an audible click or a jerk or both at predetermined intervals during the revolution of the wheel. The wheel 2 is carried in a switch mounting 3 pivoting on a pin 4 in the holder. The hole in the wheel 2 through which the spindle 5 passes is provided with internal projections 6 so that the spindle alternately rides over a projection and falls into a recess as the wheel rotates. The pin 4 is rather longer than the mounting 3 and a leaf spring is provided to hold the mounting against the head of the pin 4. This prevents the wheel swivelling too readily. Marks 9 or holes are provided opposite each recess. Flats may be employed on the periphery of the wheel or the latter may be eccentric. A cup 11 is provided for protecting the wheel when not in use.
