447,316. Golf practising appliances. ANDERSON, J. M., 1, Third Avenue, Hove, Sussex. Oct. 29, 1935, No. 29849. [Class 132 (ii)] A golf-practising device comprises a mat marked with a ball impact point and a line to indicate the correct path of the club head, a ball being carried by or anchored to a member removably securable to either side of the mat in such a manner that in either position of the member the ball is situated above or in juxtaposition to the impact point. As shown in Fig. 1, the ball 7 is rotatably supported on the free end of an arm 9 mounted on a sheet metal clamp 12 for rotation in a horizontal plane. The clamp is attachable to either side of a mat 1 and in both positions the ball is situated over a circular mark 2 on the mat. Lines 4<a>, 4b indicate the direction of travel of the ball and lines 5, 6 indicate the correct path of the club head for left and right handed players, respectively. The markings may be variously coloured. A counter 15 indicates the number of revolutions of the arm and provides a measure of the distance the ball would have travelled if free. An alternative means for indicating the length of drive comprises an indicator 26, Fig. 4, adapted to be moved up a graduated slot 24 by a centrifugal device 20 mounted on the vertical part 9<a> of the arm 9. As shown in Fig. 3, the ball is mounted on the arm by means of a ball 19 and socket 18 in frictional engagement, the arrangement serving to reduce the shock communicated to the arm when the ball is struck. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 6, the ball is tethered to an arm 33 adapted for rotation within one of a pair of sockets 32 situated at opposite sides of the mat.
