[Class 87 (ii)] In the type of punching- machine for treating plastic material in which the punch is carried by a rocking-arm reciprocated by a treadle and cooperates with a die carried on the frame of the machine, the punch is secured directly to the rocking-arm without the intervention of a pivot and moves in an arcuate path with the arm. In the illustrated construction, which is adapted for making decorations for cakes from plastic edible material, the male die is carried by a spindle 33 adjustably and detachably secured to the guided pivoted lever 16 which is depressed by a pedal through the medium of the cord 20 and is restored by a spring 18. The female die 31 is slid into position between adjustable guide plates 26 and secured by bolts 32. Preferably, the male die is formed from the piece removed by a saw-cut in forming the female die. The depression of the male die forces the shaped piece of material through the female die on to the base 10 or on to a delivery conveyer 36. The male die may impress a pattern on the material during this process, or may make a preliminary stroke for producing the impression while the base of the female die is temporarily covered. The male die may be carried on the base and the female die on the movable arm. The dies may be shaped to produce leaves, animals, letters, figures, and the like.
