Abstract

420,978. Vehicle-suspension systems. LAKE, G. F., Beverley, Sandy Lane, Billing- ham, Stockton-on-Tees. June 8, 1933, No. 16435. [Class 108 (ii)] In a vehicle-suspension system, two wheelcarrying members AB, CD are pivotally connected to the frame at points A, D and to a common link at points E, F, at least one of the connections including a shackle EB or FC, the common link being pivotally connected at two spaced points, which as shown are the points E, F, to two supporting links EG, FH which in turn are pivotally connected to the frame at points G, H so disposed that displacement of either wheel relatively to the frame displaces the common link into a position wherein it tends, under the weight of the vehicle, to restore the wheels to their original relative positions. As shown in Fig. 1 the common link EF is a strut and the wheel-carrying members are leafsprings which are shackled or directly secured to the ends of the frame. Springs however may be entirely dispensed with. Dashpots &c. may be interposed between the wheels and frame. Fig. 3 shows a modified construction in which the common link EF is a tie.
