420,467. Making electric heating- elements. BACKER, C. B., Victoria Buildings, Ottawa, Canada. Dec. 1, 1933, No. 33834. Convention date, Feb. 14. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] [See also Group XXXVI] Stamping.-One or more electric heating- elements 10 provided with metal sheaths are enclosed between grooved metal sheets 13, 14 welded together. The metal sheets are of nickel-chromium or iron-nickel-chromium alloy, or of a metal known under the Registered Trade Mark " Monel." The element is bent into approximately the correct form and then pressed to the exact form between grooved dies. The depth of the grooves is slightly less than the radius of the element sheath so that the element is flattened by 0À005 to 0À015 of an inch. The depth of the grooves in the metal sheets is less than the depth of the grooves in the dies so that the sheets are drawn over the element. A final pressing to secure further flattening of the element by 0À005 of an inch may be effected after welding.
