419,406. Plug-and-socket couplings. JUHLIN, G. A., Redscar, Moss Lane, Timperley, Cheshire, and ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Oct. 25, 1933, No. 29613. [Class 38 (i).] A plug-and-socket contact is formed or provided with a plurality of fins or webs extending along the plug the socket members comprising a plurality of contact blocks or members resiliently mounted and urged against the side faces of these fins or webs. As shown in Fig. 1 the plug member is of a section consisting of a central hollow cylinder 2 which has formed integrally thereon six radially extending fins or webs 3. The socket member comprises a housing or carrier ring 4 within which are supported six contact blocks 5. These blocks are carried on sliding supporting pins 7 and are pressed inwardly by springs 8 so that their bevelled side faces engage the sides of the fins or webs 3, flexible leads 11 connecting the enlarged heads of the pins 7 with the carrier ring. The carrier ring may be provided with a plurality of radially-extending side webs 9 (Fig. 2) the inner surfaces of which engage the ends of the blocks 5 to prevent rotation of the latter. The leading edges of the fins or webs 3 and of the contact blocks 5 may be rounded off to facilitate entry of the plug into the socket.
