Abstract
418,626. Feeding sheets. TROMPIER, L., 74, Rue Magenta, Villeurbarme, Rhone, France. March 8, 1934, No. 7460. Convention date, March 9, 1933. [Class 100 (i).] Sheets, envelopes, &c. are fed to printing, counting, gumming, and like machines from a spring or gravity pressed pile 2 supported on an adjustable inclined support 9 which is arranged so as to form with the periphery of a feed roller 4 a curved channel 12, the depth of which is adjusted in accordance with the thickness of the sheets. A support 7 for the pile is similarly adjustable. A frictional feed roller 4 which is formed with a rubber, gelatine, or like frictional portion 6, and with a smooth portion 5, separates the lowermost sheet 11 and draws it through the channel 12 into contact with a feed roller 22 co-operating with the roller 4. The roller may be formed with a plurality of alternating smooth and rough parts. A spring 13 finally assists the discharge of the separated sheet to the machine. The spring 13 is supported by a strut 14 which also supports a spring 16 which bears against the upper part of the channel 12 and serves to prevent double feed, and keeps back the succeeding sheet until it is engaged by the surface 6 at the next rotation of the roller 4. The separation of the sheets may be assisted by suction apertures formed in the surface 6 and controlled by valve means. Or the separation may be effected entirely by suction.
