Abstract

417,780. Stop valves. LAWSON, R. G., Dalston Road, Workington, Cumberland. June 19, 1934, No. 18085. [Class 135.] A parallel slide stop valve of the type having two opposed discs having nesting tubular shanks housing a light spring has the tubular shanks accommodated in a valve cage compris. ing two separable parts 10,11 arranged with their plane of cleavage parallel with the faces of the discs and with supporting flanges 15 taking over a collar 16 on the end of the actuating spindle 9. The members 10, 11 are formed with twc sets of opposed wedge surfaces, the lower pair being adapted to co-operate with a wedge 13 integral with the casing, while the upper pair co-operate with a wedge 14 formed on the lower end of the spindle 9, so that when the valve is closed the discs are forced onto their seats at diametrically opposite points. A spring 19 normally holds the wedge 14 out of engagement. The rotatable nut 17 engaging the spindle 9 is supported by a resilient member 18 to prevent the spindle being unduly stressed.
