Abstract

417,332. Threads for stitching boots &c. YORK STREET FLAX SPINNING CO., Ltd., and HONNEYMAN, W., Henry Street, Belfast. April 4, 1933, No. 10044. [Class 120 (iii).] A thread for stitching boots and shoes &c. or for stringing fabrics to aeroplane wings, comprises a core of cellulose acetate around which is braided or twisted a yarn of flax or other fibre. Prior to use the thread is passed through a solvent for the cellulose acetate which produces an adhesive waterproofing impregnation of the fibres during use. The cellulose acetate is preferably about 20 per cent of the weight of the thread. A plasticizer may be used with the cellulose acetate and an adhesive such as pitch or resin or a lubricant such as stearine or paraffin wax may be incorporated. Specifications 22736/92, [Class 120], 8154/14, 229,360, 246,345, 262,256, 332,903, [all in Class 120 (iii)], 356,681, and 357,576, and U.S.A. Specification 1,884,069 are referred to. The Provisional Specification refers to other cellulose esters and cellulose ethers as alternatives for the cellulose acetate core.
