Abstract

A preliminary condensation product of a phenol and an aldehyde which at 25 DEG C. has a water-content of at least 18 per cent by weight, or can take up into solution this proportion of water, is used to impregnate sheets of paper which are then superimposed and hot-pressed to produce a laminated material. Suitable resins with water-contents of 35 and 27 per cent are obtained by stopping the condensation of formalin with phenol and oxalic acid or cresol and caustic soda at an early stage.
