Abstract

A process of making plywood comprises coating wood lamin with the aqueous reaction mixture from a phenol and aldehyde reacted in the presence of a catalyst below 100 DEG C. to form a partial condensate, drying the lamin , and hot-pressing. The solution, which may contain ethanol or methanol, may be coated on both sides of the core, or on the inside or both sides of the surface lamin , or the latter may be impregnated therewith. The partial condensate may be prepared from cresylic acid and formaldehyde as follows: in the presence of caustic soda, with or without ammonia, and triethanolamine, with or without oleic acid; in the presence of sodium sulphite, triethanolamine, and oleic acid.
