Abstract

Phenol-aldehyde condensation products.-Phenol formaldehyde resins are rendered transparent by adding to the reaction mixture when the water has separated from the resin a mixture of acetic acid, camphor, glycerine, and hydrochloric acid. In an example these substances in the proportion of 90 parts acetic acid, 7 parts camphor, 2 parts glycerine, and 1 part hydrochloric acid are mixed and boiled under reflux. The mixture is added to the resin reaction mixture in the proportion of 3 per cent.
