Abstract
416,990. Cooling dynamo-electric machines. MOSSAY, P. A. H., and SCOTT, G. J., Gothic Works, Norwich. April 3, 1933, No. 9990. [Class 35.] A cooling tube for use in an enclosed dynamo-electric machine comprises two pressed sheet steel parts 1, 2, each having a straight channel 3, bends 4, 5, and a flange 6. The parts are clamped together with a flat steel plate 8 between them, and the joint is secured by soldering, brazing, hot galvanizing or spot welding. More than one intermediate plate 8 may be used, so that the air to be cooled is divided into thin strata between good conducting material. The ends of the tube are tapered to ensure a good fit in holes in the casing 12 of the machine, and the joints may be welded. The plate 8 is cut away at 9 to provide for the insertion of an expanding tool. The machine has end shields 18, 19, a fan 21 for blowing air over the cooling tubes, and a fan 22 for blowing internal air through the tubes in the opposite direction. Specification 365,650 is referred to.
