Abstract

415,955. Printing-machines. POLLAK, J. E., 20, Holborn, London.-(Multigraph Co. ; 1840, East 40th Street, Cleveland, Ohio, U.S.A.) Feb. 7, 1934, No. 4063. [Class 100 (ii).] A rotary planographic printing-machine for office use comprises a main frame in which are mounted an impression cylinder 31 and an offset cylinder 21, and a pivoted frame 40, 41 in which are mounted the plate cylinder 51 and the ink-applying rollers 60 or a roller 130 for applying an ink-repelling medium to the printing-plate. The frame 40, 41 can be swung on its pivot 48 together with the roller 130 and the rollers 60 and ink-supplying rollers. The frame 40, 41 is connected by links 71 to the frame 11, the links 71 being pivoted eccentrically to the shaft 50 upon which the plate cylinder 51 is mounted. The shaft 50 is normally held by a pivoted catch to a recessed disc 90 secured to the link 71 by a screw 92. When it is desired to trip the plate-cylinder 51, the catch is released and the shaft 50 is rotated by a knob 55 and the eccentric extension of the shaft 50 causes the frame 40, 41 to move away from the frame 11. The impression roller 31 rotates on a shaft 30 which has an eccentric extension 32, Fig. 5, mounted in the frame 11. The extension 32 is fitted with an operating knob 35 in a slot in which is pivoted a catch 88 which normally engages a notch 83 in an adjustable disc 80 to hold the impression roller in printing position. On depression of the right hand end of the catch 88 and rotation of the knob 35, the roller 31 is moved out of printing position. The printing-plate 140 and the offset blanket 150 are secured to their respective cylinders by engaging with stationary pins 144 at one end and with pins 141 on a spring-controlled pivoted arm 143 at the other end. The ink is supplied from a dust roller 101 fitted with an adjustable duct blade 100 attached to the cross-bar 45 which connects the two members 40, 41 of the plate-cylinder frame. A pivoted guard 107 protects the inking rollers. A swinging messenger roll 104 supplies distributing rollers 109, 110 which transfer the ink to the forme rollers 60. These are mounted in eccentric bearings in such a manner that they can be readily dismantled, the construction being similar to the ink-repellent roller 130 shown in section in Fig. 4. The shaft 132 of this roller is formed with eccentric ends 133, 134 mounted in the frame 41. A set-screw 120 engaging in a groove 121 holds the shaft in position, and a spring-pressed plunger 113 engages one of a series of recesses 114 in the end 134 to hold the roller in its adjusted position. The roller 130 is formed with a fabric cover 131 for absorbing the liquid-repelling fluid.
