[Class 135.] In float-controlled pressure-regulating valve apparatus, particularly for variable vacuum steam heating systems, the valve 8 connecting the inlet and outlet conduits 2, 3 is controlled by a float 11 sustained by mercury filling the pipe 13 and the lower part of a chamber 12, which is connected by a pipe 14 to a reservoir 15 of compressed air, water &c. Branches 18 of the pipe 14 are controlled by cocks 19 and lead respectively to a manually controlled cock and to an automatic control, such as a thermostat, by means of which, or by direct control of the pressure in the reservoir 15, the level of the mercury and thus the pressure in the conduit 3 may be adjusted. A single reservoir may control several valves. As shown, a balancing valve 9 is used with the valve 8.
