Abstract
415,539. Hinges. TALBOYS MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., and CARROLL, A., Tame Road, Witton, Birmingham. May 20, 1933, No. 14601. [Class 65 (ii).] In a hinge for the leg of a folding table, having a hand-released catch associated with the leg and engaging a fixed part of the table to hold the leg in the operative position, the catch is provided with an inclined or wedge surface which tends, as the catch is forced into engagement with the fixed part by a spring, to draw the leg up against its stop and take up any wear on the pivot. In the form shown, the leg c is formed of sheet metal, and is attached by a pivot pin e to a fitting d of substantially U -section secured inside the corner of the table top flange b. A plate f secured to the leg abuts against flanges of the member d to limit motion in the unfolding direction, and a catch k, pivoted on the leg and pressed by a leaf spring p, engages under the flanges to lock the leg in position, inclined engaging edges n of the catch tending to force the leg hard against its stop. The opposite leg has its pivot offset, to allow it to fold underneath the leg shown.
