[Class 26.] In order to provide for the application of a closet seat or lid or both to pans of varying dimensions, the seat and lid being provided with rearwardly-projecting brackets which are pivotally connected, and the pivot or pivots engaging in, or being carried by, posts secured to the pan, each post comprises a socket member 22, Fig. 5, in which is slidable a plug 23, the plug and socket having apertures through which the pivot pin 20 is passed ; the plug is provided with a screwed shank 24 projecting through a hole 25 in the socket and adapted for attachment to the pan, such attachment drawing the plug downwardly with respect to the socket to clamp the post to the pin. The seat and cover, which may be made of moulded material, have each a pair of recesses on its underside such as 12, 13, Fig. 2, which receive the shanks of brackets 14 which are secured in the required position by plates 16 fastened by screws 17. In the case of each lid-bracket, the shank thereof has an upturned end 8 engaging one of a series of correspondingly-shaped recesses 9 formed in the recess. A spacing-tube is mounted upon the pivot pin between the seatbrackets, and the seat and lid are recessed at 29 and 27 respectively. In another form, Fig. 6, each bracket comprises a plate 30 screwed on to the cover or lid with a shank 31 of dovetail section which may be secured in the required position in a dovetail socket portion 33 by a screw 35.
