A seat-and-lid device for a water-closet pan comprises hinge means secured to the pan, a seat and a lid, both having rear portions with co-operating means whereby they can be mutually connected and disconnected, and can be detachably engaged with the hinge means without the use of the tools, and whereby on assembly of the seat and lid, they pivot in relation to each other and, when engaged with the hinge means, pivot relative thereto. In the form shown the co-operating means comprises projections 5 (Fig. 1) on the seat 1 and studs 8 on the lid 2, for fitting into the projections 5. Two hinge members 3 with sockets 10, secured to the pan, receive the projections 5 and studs 8, having apertures 15 for their passage. The hinges 3 have feet 11 (Fig. 3) with slots 14 to receive the heads 13 of fixing screws 12 and the apertures 15 thereof may have a width slightly less than the outer radius of the projections 5 when the hinges 3 are of flexible material, as the projections 5 can be pressed thereinto. A portion 18 of the lower face of the lid 2 (Fig. 4) when it is raised with respect to the seat 1, abuts against a part 19 of each hinge 3 and is slightly rearwardly inclined to the lower face and towards the top face. The apertures 15 and the projections 5 have rounded -off edge portions 22 and 23 and the lid 2 has curved portions 24 which engage in the recess 4, and so extend partly round a hinge, socket 10. The hinges 3 are interconnected by means of a bar or plate 17.
