Abstract
415,396. Converting. SPANNER, H. J., and KRAMOLIN, L. L. DE, 117, Chausseestrasse, Berlin. Dec. 22, 1932, No. 36379. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, June 23, 1933.] [Class 38 (ii).] A conductor 7, at a negative potential, produces an electrostatic field which suppresses the discharge through the tube 10, distortion of the field, e.g. by the introduction of a conducting body into the field, initiating the discharge. In one application of the invention, periodic interruptions are produced by a conducting member 11 distorting the field, initiating the discharge to energize the winding 12 which withdraws the member 11 from the field to suppress the discharge, thus de-energizing the winding 12 and allowing the member 11 to move into the field and initiate the discharge again. The tube 10 may have an argon or metallic filling and a conductive coating on its inside or outside walls. It may be operated with alternating current of higher periodicity than the switch 11, or may be used to convert direct current to alternating current. In a modification, the member 11 is dispensed with and the relay 12 closes a switch in the lead to the conductor 7, Fig. 2, not shown. Specification 390,307, [Group XL], is referred to.
