415,320. Machines for working land. FOWLER & CO. (LEEDS), Ltd., J., Steam Plough & Locomotive Works, and STOREY, N. C., 13, Leathley Road, Hunslet, both in Leeds. Jan. 13, 1934, No. 1349. [Class 6 (i).] In a rotary tilling-machine in which the earth-working tools are mounted on axes inclined to the vertical and driven by chain and bevel gearing, means are provided for adjusting arms carrying the frame in which the tools are mounted about eccentrics and thus tightening the driving-chain in such a manner that the distance between the axis of the driving and driven chain sprockets does not change when the frame carrying the tools is raised or lowered by being turned about its hinge. The frame 1 carrying the earth-working tools comprises a gearing casing, bearings for the spindles 8 of the tools, side flanges, and a casing for the driving-chain 36. The tools 6 are bolted to carriers 7 on the spindle 8 and are driven by bevel pinions gearing with bevel wheels 9, the pinions being keyed on the same shaft as the driven sprocket wheel 14. The frame 1 is connected to the tractor frame 15 by plate arms 16, diagonal brace plates 17, hinge plates 18, eccentrics 19, and hinge pins 20 in line with the axis of the driving-sprocket 35. The chain 36 is tightened by turning the eccentrics 19 in the hinge plates 18 by rotating the pins 20, on which they are keyed. They may be locked against rotation by removable keepers 42 fitting between teeth 41.
