Abstract
413,489. Discharge apparatus. M-O VALVE CO., Ltd., Marconi House, Strand, London, EDEN, C. G., and SMITHELLS, C. J., o/o General Electric Co., Ltd., Wembley, Middlesex. June 27, 1933, No. 18283. Addition to 378,994. [Class 39 (i).] The metal member used as a clamp as described in the parent Specification is arranged so that it is compressed in a direction substantially perpendicular to the thickness of the material of which it is composed. In one form, Fig. 1, a metal plate a has a rectangular hole 1 in it. Electrode supporting wires 2 are passed through it and are insulated by strips 3 of mica. The member a is then compressed in the directions indicated by the arrows. It is stated that owing to the pressure the wires 2 are deformed and flaps are formed on them which prevent longitudinal and rotary movements. The capacity between the wires and the metal member is reduced as compared with the form shown in the parent Specification. In a modification the ends of the member a are bent at rightangles to the plane of the member. In another modification, for use where electrode supporting wires of different thicknesses are used, the aperture 1 is wider at the sides where the larger diameter wires pass, than at the centre.
