Condenser telephones and other electrostatic instruments. - An electrostatic device for the interconversion of mechanical and electrical oscillations, such as a condenser telephone and more particularly an electrostatic loud-speaker, has one at least of the electrodes formed of a plurality of strips arranged in the same plane. Fig. 1 shows a construction of loud-speaker in which both electrodes a, b are formed of a plurality of strips a<1>, b<1> arranged transversely to one another. Each strip is rigidly attached at one end to a framework d and tensioned at the other end to the frame by a spring c. Alternatively, both ends of the strips may be connected by springs to the framework. In order to prevent the electrodes short-circuiting when subjected to relatively high potentials, the strips may be coated with varnish or other insulating material.
