Abstract
413,197. Gas-washing processes and materials. SOC. DU GAZ DE PARIS, 6, Rue Cordorcet, Paris. Dec. 1, 1933, No. 33848. Convention date, Dec. 27, 1932. [Class 55 (ii).] Noxious gases such as are evolved from ammonium sulphate saturators, crude town gas, coke-oven gas, water gas, &c. are washed with the residual liquor from ammonia distilling towers, i.e. the liquor remaining after heating ammoniacal liquor with milk of lime to liberate ammonia. The liquor is sprayed down a tower 3 filled with Raschig rings, earthenware, hollow bricks, spirals or pieces of coke or graphite, the gas to be purified being drawn in counter-current by a fan 4. The gas and liquor may flow in parallel streams, and the liquor may be re-circulated.
