Abstract
255,144. Jackson, W. J. Mellersh-, (Koppers Co.). April 14, 1925. Materials and compositions for purifying; purifier waste, revivefying. -In a process for the removal of hydrogen sulphide &c. from fuel gases freed from ammonia in which the gases are passed into an alkaline absorbent liquid revivefied by heating and aeration, e.g. a suspension of magnesium oxide in water or alkali as described in Specification 190,118, the reaction is facilitated bv the addition of a metallic chloride. The purifying liquid may comprise a 5 per cent solution of magnesium chloride containing 2 per cent of magnesium oxide. The apparatus comprises an absorber 1, an actifier 13, a heat exchanger 11 and a cooler 19. Gas is passed into the absorber tower 1 having a. manifold 3 and bubbling hoods 4 with serrated edges or aÙrating means as described in Specifications 238,172, 241,248, and 255,139. The fouled liquid flows to a sump 9 and is pumped therefrom through a heat exchanger 11 provided with means for simultaneously heating and agitating or aÙrating the spent liquid. The purified liquid passes from the tower 13 through the heat exchanger 11, to a cooler 19 and is then returned to the absorber 1 by a pipe 20.
