[Class 132 (ii).] In golf clubs wherein a resilient sleeve is provided between the shaft and club head, the sleeve is formed by winding resilient material under tension on to the shaft or on to a ferrule fitted to the shaft. The resilient material which may consist of rubber thread, cord, tape or the like, with or without the addition of cotton, cellulose or other thread or fibre, is wound in one or more layers 4, Fig. 1, on to a reduced tapered portion 3 of the shaft 1. To facilitate adhesion of the windings, the part 3 and, or, the windings may be treated with rubber solution or other adhesive, and the part 3 may be helically grooved, Fig. 4. A protective covering 6, Figs. 6, 8, of thin rubber solution or latex, gutta-percha moulded in position, or a thin rubber sheath, is provided over the windings, treated with a halide if desired, and secured to the shaft by clamp rings 7, screws or pins. The shaft, which may be of wood or steel, is secured to the club head in any suitable manner. A wooden club-head is bored at 9, Fig. 6, and the shaft driven in and secured by a screw 12 passing through a preferably elongated hole in the tubular shaft to allow torsional play thereof. Alternatively the end 3 of the shaft may be threaded to engage a screwed ferrule housed in a recess in the sole of the club. When applied to an iron, the shaft 1 is driven into a socket 15, Fig. 8, and secured by a rivet 17, passing through holes 18 in the club head, which are preferably elongated to allow for torsional play between the shaft and head. When the resilient cushion is applied to a metal ferrule secured to the shaft, the latter is fitted to the club head in any of the above described ways.
