412,325. Land rollers. HIGHFIELD, F. G., Clanver, Green Lane, and HARGREAVES, W., Glendaruel, Thorley Lane, both in Timperley, Cheshire. Jan. 31, 1933, No. 2937. [Class 6 (i).] Relates to transportable ground - rolling machines in which the roller is adapted to absorb the water or snow on pavements, greens, and the like, and in which means are provided for expressing the absorbed moisture from the roller. According to the invention, the axle a<1> of the roller a is mounted in cam slots c<2> in the supporting frame and is thereby capable of displacement relatively to the expressing or squeezing roller e<1> which has trundling wheels e<2>. The squeezing action is effected by inverting the machine and rotating the wheels e<2> by hand, or by wheeling the inverted machine on the wheels e<2>. In the form shown, the drum a is covered with an absorbent material, such as woven fabric, or several layers of felt. The axle has reduced ends a<2> engaging in the lobes of the cam slots, and with these reduced ends engages the drilled heads f<2> of two resilient couplings f. These couplings maintain the roller in either of its two positions of adjustment and are mounted one on each end of the shaft e of the squeezing roller e<1>. Upstanding members c form feet for the machine when in the inverted position. A scraping device against which the roller may be periodically brought to bear, may be provided when the machine is dealing with snow. Specifications 371,524 and 376,585 are referred to.
