Abstract
371,524. Land rollers ; removing moisture from turfed surfaces &c. HIGHFIELD, F. G., Clanver, Green Lane, Timperley, Cheshire. Feb. 23, 1931, No. 5578. [Class 6 (i).] Apparatus for rolling and for removing moisture from cricket grounds, tennis courts, floors, &c. comprises a hollow perforated drum or roller provided with an absorbent jacket and with means for squeezing water out of the absorbent jacket so that it passes through the perforations into a receiving vessel inside the roller. The jacket A may consist of terry fabric of cotton &c. wrapped or wound on the roller a, with the external ply or plies of stronger texture than the others. The roller a is perforated over the whole of its periphery, and turns on an axle b to which are connected pulling or pushing handles or shafts h. An expressing roller f is mounted in spring-pressed bearings e movable in slotted brackets d on the axle b, the pressure of the springs being adjustable by studs g<1>. The water pressed out of the jacket A by the roller f passes through the perforations into a vessel c hung on the axle b and provided with an outlet plug c<1>. The handles or shafts h may be swung about the axle from one side of the roller to the other, being held in either position by a spring-controlled bar j engaging in notches j<1>.
