412,228. Cooling dynamo - electric machines. INTERNATIONAL GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Inc., 120, Broadway, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Allgemeine Elektricitõts-Ges. ; 2, Friedrich Karl-Ufer, Berlin.) Dec. 20, 1932, No. 36130. Convention date, Dec. 21, 1931. [Class 35.] In a circulation cooling system for a dynamoelectric machine having coolers, 10, 11 directly attached to the sides of the machine, a lateral air channel is provided forming two branches 13, 12 leading in an upward and downward direction respectively. The upper branch 13 communicates with a passage 15 at the top of the stator whence air is supplied through junction pipes 16 to the end cover 17. The lower branch 12 communicates with a passage 14 in the base plate in direct connection with the end cover 17 and air from the end cover is forced by fans 5 into pockets 6, through radial slots 7 in the stator and out through outflow chambers 8 arranged alternately with the pockets 6 into the coolers. A single cooler for the two branches or a separate cooler in each branch may be provided. In a modification, the machine is divided axially into three cooling belts. The lower branch cools the two end sections and the central belt draws air from the upper branch by means of a separately driven fan mounted in the centre of the machine. The central belt comprises an annular channel communicating with inflow pockets similar to the pockets 6 in Figs. 1<a> and 1<b>, and outflow chambers similar to the chambers 8 communicating with two annular channels which convey the. air into the coolers. A greater number of cooling belts may be employed.
