411,356. Distance-measuring apparatus. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP MACHINERIEEN-EN-APPARATEN FABRIEKEN, 30, Croeselaan, Utrecht, Holland. Oct. 13, 1933, No. 28393. Convention date, Nov. 25, 1932. [Class 118 (ii).] In a system for measuring distance by the time lag between sound waves and wireless waves, the electrical current serving to feed the sound source modulates the wireless waves as soon as the acoustic transmitter is connected in circuit. As shown in Fig. 1, the motor 1 drives generator 2 which feeds the sound emitter 3 and transformer 7. When the circuit is completed by cam 5 the sound emitter is operated and current flows through transformer 7, which supplies current to the wireless transmitter 8 in rhythm with the sound signals. Fig. 2 illustrates an embodiment in which an air sound emitter 12 and an under water sound emitter 21 are operated in turn, the wireless transmitter being operated in synchronism with both emissions.
