Abstract
823,311. Detecting approach of overtaking vehicles. TELE F'LUX. May 2, 1957 [May 8, 1956], No. 13995/57. Class 118 (2). A repeater in the driver's cab responds only to sounds existing for a predetermined time and of a predetermined frequency range. The horns of following cars are thereby brought to the driver's notice. The sound of the horn is picked up by microphone 2 amplified by transistor 7, and passed to a clipper transistor 14 and further clipper 20. The CR coupling networks of the transistor discriminate against the lower frequencies. The square waves are partially differentiated by the transformer 22, the process being completed by the following circuit. Diode 30 shorts out the negative pulses and the positive pulses charge capacitor 34 through diode 31. The pulses are integrated against a bleed 35 and relay 36 is arranged to respond to pulse trains of more than 1 second to operate relay 39 and thus the light and buzzer 40, 41. In a modification (not shown) no frequency discrimination is practised in the amplifier and sine waves are fed to the transformer. Two diodes in series opposition with strapped cathodes are connected across the secondary and suitably biased to act as clipper diodes to produce square waves which are then rectified and integrated as previously described.
