Abstract
625,407. Pulsing carrier frequencies. DODDS, J. M., LUDLOW, J. H., and METROPOLITANVICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. May 13, 1938, No. 14374. [Class 40 (v)] In a radio transmitter arranged to transmit rapid changes in carrier level, e.g. for " marks " and " spaces," signal distortion due to exponential growth 2, Fig. 2, and/or decay 3 of the transmitted pulse is reduced by applying additional pulses 4, 5 to increase the rate of growth 8 and/or decay 10 of the signal waveform. This is accomplished as shown in Fig. 3, by two amplifiers 5, 6 connected in anti-phase with the carrier source 1 and grid-controlled by a signal controlling device 9 which receives the original signals on terminals 13. The arrangement is such that on the arrival of the signal front, the impulse 4 is generated in the device 9 by a condenser-resistance switching device, Fig. 4 (not shown), which at the termination of the signal pulse also produces the anti-phase pulse 5. The parallel output connection of the amplifiers 5, 6 ensures that no energy of carrier frequency reaches the final amplifier 12 of the transmitter during " space " periods.
